Traditional remedies can be poison

A new study by a Ugandan researcher has shown that many herbal remedies can actually be poisonous. And doctors warn that untested herbs can harm an unborn child.

Salmon Adebayo presented his findings to the Society of Toxicology meeting which was held in the United States. He found that instead of helping conditions, some herbs actually end up poisoning the person. He found some did a lot of damage to the liver of HIV infected patients.

His study also claims that more than 80% of South Africans use herbal remedies for their primary healthcare needs.

Just because some medication is easy to get, does not mean it's safe for pregnant women.

If you feel unwell, go to the clinic. Don't take any treatment unless it's recommended by the clinic.

Have you taken any traditional remedies while pregnant?
