Fish in cheese sauce

By this stage your baby's food should still be smooth, but you can make the puree thicker and lumpier. You can also start giving baby mashed or minced food. This is important as it encourages your baby to learn how to chew, even without teeth.

Fish in cheese sauce
Suitable from age 8 months
Good source of Protein, B vitamins and Calcium

125g white fish fillet (hake or haddock)
3tbsp full cream milk
15g butter or margerine
1tbsp plain flour
125ml full cream milk for sauce
30g grated cheddar cheese
Potato for mash

Place the fish in a small pan and pour over the 3 tbsp milk. Bring to the boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for about 10 min.

Remove fish from the milk, flake and mash with a fork, removing all bones.

Meanwhile, melt the butter in a small pot, stir in the flour and add the 125ml milk, stirring continuously till the sauce thickens. Turn down the heat and simmer. Remove from heat and add the cheese.

Stir in the fish and mash together with a fork.

Serve lukewarm with mashed potato and a green vegetable.

Can keep for 24 hours in the fridge or freeze and keep for up to 4 weeks in the freezer.
