First chicken puree

By the age of 7 months your baby should be eating 3 meals a day. She will soon be ready to try a variety of different tastes. Let baby sit with you at mealtimes and let her appetite guide you. Never force her to eat anything. Babies should still have between 500ml and 600ml milk per day up until the age of one year.

Chicken is a growth food as it is full of protein and Vitamin B12 which is not found in plant foods. It is important children start to eat food containing protein at this age. It also contains fat which is good for growth and energy.

Baby's first chicken puree

50g washed and sliced leeks
75g chicken breast cut into chunks
200g potatoes, peeled and chopped
175g carrots, peeled and sliced
2 small tomatoes, skinned, de-seeded and chopped
250ml unsalted chicken stock

Fry the leeks in some oil for about 3 min till soft. Then add chicken and fry till browned. Add potatoes, tomatoes and carrots and pour over the chicken stock. Bring to the boil, then reduce heat, cover and let it simmer for 20 minutes till soft.

Blend in a food processor. Serve warm.
